After High School, John attended Washtenaw Community College where he studied Graphic Design, Art and Photography. He went to Kansas City Art Institute in 1989 and studied with Hall of Fame Illustrator Mark English, his son John English, Dean Mitchell and Eric Dinyer. An Internship at Hallmark Cards and an entry into the life of a freelance illustrator followed.
Moving back to Michigan upon graduating John got a job as a staff illustrator/art director/product designer at Colorbok in Dexter Michigan. 1995 led to the start of his own company ROCKYWORLD LICENSING AND CREATIVE SERVICES which created images for use on a variety of products from CD covers to Hospital scrubs.
Clients include General Motors, Capitol Records, Grammy Awards, Hallmark Cards, Ringling Brothers, Anchorage Daily News, Sony JMG among many others.
Awards include Gold and Silver medals at the Society of Illustrators of Los Angeles.
John currently is an Adjunct Professor at the School of Digital Media Arts at Washtenaw Community College.
